And in the end…
8 06 2009Long weekend driving out to NPR. Was a good time, we had a clean car and kept running consistently out there. Not fast, but staying out there. I wish I could type up all the little bits of memories from this weekend, but here’s the quick summary.
At the end of Saturday, we had first place by five laps. We also had no idea we were leading that much for that long!

Beginning of Sunday, rotated tires. Didn’t touch anything else. I think we even got around to checking pressures, but didn’t bother changing them. All off all over the place. Just about everyone voted for #2 Miata to get the People’s Curse. They got wind of it, packed up, and left. link to jalopnik
We were running strong through Sunday. Race was going to end at 4pm, and the last report at 3:28 said we were ahead by a few laps. We were celebrating… too soon, because at that moment, we got word that the car cut out. No power, nothing. Reset ECU, another team helped us and gave it a splash of gas, not in the right place in the paddock. We were held up by the track marshals for a few seconds. Sent back out. We had no idea if we were still in first, or wherever we were. Came down to watching or the checkered flag. The Celica got the wave and we knew we took second place one lap down.

We walked away with first in class, which is something, but never underestimate the Dirty Some Beaches in the Civic WagoVan. We are not turning fast laps, but we’re out there turning laps.

Peoples curse avoided
7 06 2009The miata #2 avoided getting the peoples curse (crushed) by hearing about all the votes received. Crushing at 1130 avoided by packing up 45 min prior and leaving the track. The team includes a three time national champion spec miara racer. Oh and they have been crushed at lemons twice in Houston.
